Metro Aerospace, a small Dallas-based defense company, seizes opportunity to grow

Large, publicly traded defense contractors produce some of the world’s most advanced technology.

But sometimes they don’t have the ability to develop smaller technology because their core competency is manufacturing aircraft, satellites and other large pieces of machinery for the U.S. and other countries’ militaries.

That’s where smaller players in the defense industry, like Dallas-based Metro Aerospace, come into the equation.

For example, Metro Aerospace licenses a product called Microvanes, which are small components on the outside of the fuselage of the aircraft designed to increase fuel efficiency. The technology was originally developed by the Skunk Works division of Lockheed Martin.
